Drilled in 1882, one mile west of here, with the then largest flow of gas in the world, and later piped to Pittsburgh for light and heat. This initiated the beginning and development of the great oil and gas fields in southwestern Pennsylvania. (Dedicated: Friday, January 6, 1967)
