Col. Thomas Dunbar, with the heavy artillery for Braddock’s army, camped at a point three and a half miles to the north on July 9, 1755, the day of Braddock’s defeat. When the news came, he destroyed most of the munitions and retreated. (Dedicated: Tuesday, June 18, 1946)
