In the 1760s, the British Fort Ligonier served as an important post between Fort Pitt to the west and more established territory to the east. Today, eight acres of the fort have been preserved with many reconstructions, within a 1,600-ft. retrenchment. There is also an expansive museum, with a history gallery, and art gallery, and a special George Washington collection. Check the website for current events and other educational programs.
