The first steel rails rolled on order in the U.S. were manufactured by the Cambria Iron Works across the river in 1867. These works were an industry leader in rolling mill technology. The ingots were made in Steelton by the Pennsylvania Steel Company. (Dedicated: Monday, August 18, 1947)
