Founder, Peter Shouse, built “Kentuckian,” its first steamboat, in 1829. Sold 1837 to E. & N. Porter. By 1866 over 80 steamboats had been launched. The last was the 1727-ton “Great Republic,” famed on the Mississippi River for its size and elegance. (Dedicated: Sunday, June 14, 1987)
