General Braddock’s flying column passed a little NE of here on June 23, 1755, after pausing two days at Bear Camp in Maryland to cut a road in the side of the mountain. In order to reach Fort Duquesne before French reinforcements could arrive, no time was taken to erect strong redoubts along the way. (Dedicated: Sunday, June 1, 1969)
