Haunted Houses in Pittsburgh – 2023

Here is the complete list of haunted houses in Pittsburgh, PA and nearby areas – updated for 2023!  This list includes hayrides, trails and other Halloween attractions across western Pennsylvania. There are plenty in the Pittsburgh area to choose from, ranging from basic haunted houses with simple Halloween decorations to hayrides, to full-scale festivals with bonfires, bands and concessions.  Some of these attractions are OK for kids, but be sure to visit the haunted house’s website to determine if they are kid friendly.

Each year, the haunted house attractions in the area seem to open earlier and earlier in the season.  Many are opening in September and stretching through the first week of November.  As the attractions become more sophisticated and complex, they are extending the season.  September is a great time to head out since the weather is warmer, but if you prefer the chill of the October night air, there are even more options for you.

Now, onto this year’s list of attractions!

Haunted Mini-Golf at the Windmill

Haunted Mini Golf at the Hopewell Windmill

7 Days a Week, Fun for all ages!  See you on opening day, Saturday, September 16th, 2023…

Now in its 14th year!  Each fall the Hopewell Windmill miniature golf course transforms into a haunted Halloween attraction…  Seasonal music, inflatables and various gory and not-so-gory decorations line the course.  Past seasons have included pumpkins, corn stalks, coffins, a kitchen scene, an interesting shower scene and a freezer for body parts.  Watch out for creepy monsters that are sometimes lurking around, waiting to surprise you!  New for 2023 is the Windmill Medical Academy, which will be open and accepting body parts, with a Medical Academy dropouts cemetery!  The course is suitable for all ages, but it is probably best to bring the youngest children during daylight hours.

The course is the size of a football field, and takes 30-45 minutes to complete.  Come at night and use glow-in-the dark golf balls!  Be sure to visit the Haunted Windmill this season – one of the few area haunted attractions that is open daily through Halloween, even into November!

Allen’s Haunted Hayride & Tavern of Terror

In it’s 45th year in 2023, Allen’s Haunted Hayrides has become a Halloween tradition for decades and is one of the oldest haunted houses in Pittsburgh.  On their website they claim to be the oldest hayride in the nation, with hayrides dating back to the 1960’s!   The attraction features 10 displays and 30 spooks and monsters lurking in the dark.  In 2015 they added the Tavern of Terror, a 3500 square-foot haunted walk thru of classic horror! Both the hayride and Tavern of Terror will be back for 2023, this year presenting Woodcrest Asylum, which burned on the present day site of the Tavern… Take a wagon ride down Route 666 to the Haunted Hayshed, and back again (if you are lucky). The barn itself was designated as being truly haunted in 2001 during a paranormal investigation. The hayride concept has been built upon to include unlimited carnival games and rides, along with bonfire pits that are available for rent. Beware – the hayride is intense, the monsters are in your face! For most people, the hayride lasts 30 minutes, for others, it lasts a lifetime!

The Haunted History Hayride is back again for the 2023 Halloween season, one night only. Many times actual history is the scariest of all. Learn about frontier history and be frightened by ghosts and goblins, and by 18th century re-enactors along the hayride / walk.  See why life in those days could be horrifying!  Event includes a story teller, admission to the museum & gift shop, and concessions and ghost stories in the Stone Room.  If you are interested in something different, this is a great choice, just be sure to bring a flashlight!

Castle Blood: Halloween Adventure Tour

The MacCabre Family will return for their 31st year in 2023, 13th at their Monessen location! Note that the location changed over a decade ago from Bealsville to Monessen. Castle Blood refreshes their adventure tour each year (like Night of the Vampire, The Dark is Calling and Beware the Moon). Each year there are new attractions to the tour, which is more of an interactive experience and not as much of a blood and gore traditional haunted house.  It is “Halloween the way it ought to be”!  In 2018, there was an all-new Experimentorium.  Known for it’s grand special effects, Castle Blood is sure to please as Pittsburgh’s Most Unusual Haunted Attraction. The MacCabre Family actually lived on site at the old location, and are known to stay in character year round – they even hosted their own late night TV show, The Midnight Monster Hop.  Read the entire legend of the Castle at their website.

There is something for kids of all ages. Be sure to try your hand at several spooky games before venturing down the haunted trail. Fright Farm is back and ready for more this Halloween, again with four attractions, a gift shop, a pizza shop and concessions!  When Fright Farm exploded onto the scene, it was one of the first to develop a carnival atmosphere around the event, with live bands and rides. Haunted Hills Estate Scream Park

Haunted Hills Estate Scream Park, which opened in Uniontown in 2004, has quickly grown from a small family business into a festival-sized park, with now eight themed areas and an array of Halloween Season offerings. To commemorate 20 successful years of entertaining Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia, the park has added a witch’s spell book’s worth of new surprises for thrill-seekers to experience during their Fall 2023 operating season.

Visitors to the decrepit mansion, The House will get to explore new sets in 2023  where trapped living residents are out for revenge!  Dare to enter the uninhabited section of the sprawling building’s basement and the “chainsaw pit” area as they scream through a longer, more terrifying labyrinth.  Be sure to trek through the famed “Woods Trails” that gave the park its reputation in the 2000’s. Back again is the Byte County Mine Shaft, a brand-new themed section in which patrons wander through an underground shaft, escaping miners that have been infected with a parasite, transforming them into humanoid, Bat-like creatures.  All new for 2022 wasTwisted Nightmare 3D, which has been extended and improved again for 2023!

The park has also lengthened its existing trails in recent years, The Burial Grounds, Deadwoods, and Sin Creek. Rounding off the experience is Stalker Hollow Cornfield, the park’s uphill Corn Maze, which has doubled in size in recent years. Visitors can expect to encounter witches of the Deadwoods that have been banished here as they find their way through a dizzying, massive cornstalk path.

The midway offers photo ops and roaming performers, a “Haunt Shoppe” stocked with macabre merchandise, a concession stand with a wide array of offerings, Axe Throwing courtesy of WV-based Mountain Man Axe Throwing, and the “Soul Collector” Stage, which houses an 15-foot-tall animatronic creature procured from a legendary New Orleans attraction. The stage also provides a mix of high-energy music throughout the night, and several special events including magic shows and “HHE Idol”, a singing competition, on select nights.

Haunted Hills Estate Scream Park presents a yearly Haunted Christmas event, which was named by The Travel Channel as one of the Top 10 Scariest Christmas Haunted Houses in the Country, as well as a Haunted Valentine’s Weekend in February, and a Saint Patrick’s Day Massacre in March, which attract thousands of horror fans outside the standard Fall offerings.

Haunted Hollow is a Somerset Halloween tradition (formerly known as Huston’s Haunted Hollow), with 2023 marking 27 Years of Fear!  The attraction was originally made up of the Haunted House and Hayride of Horror and Evil Forest.

Ghost Hunting was something new in 2021, where you could find & capture ghosts along the way using your phone.  This was back again last year but there is no mention of it for 2023.

Back again are the Dead End Cornfield, HollowWood Haunted Hayride, Toxic Wasteland & Bruner Boarding House & Milford Asylum, where tortured spirits of former patients still seek revenge.  Also returning is Haunted Hollow Escape, a 15 minute escape room to get out of Willie’s Shack before he returns!  New Year, New Fear!

There will also be food & drink, live bands, DJs and bonfires…

Hundred Acres Manor

Back for it’s 19th year in 2023, Hundred Acres Manor has been named “one of America’s scariest haunted attractions” by the Travel Channel, and is one of the more well-known haunted houses in Pittsburgh.  It’s location is the same in South Park as the former Phantoms In the Park, at the old Sully’s Pool on Hundred Acres Drive. This attraction expanded in 2014 to six attractions which are mostly back again for 2023, featuring The HostHallows Eve, Breach 2.0 and Folklore and Vodoh The Spell.  There are now 5 attractions since The Lift failed to rise again this year.  It had been a “legacy and staple” in Hundred Acres Manor history!   Other long-gone haunts from the past include Torture Tank, Deadlift, Damnation, Brine Slaughterhouse & FearScapes Factory.  There is also a “not so scary” wagon ride for the younger kids.  You can also interact and share photos on all the sites such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

If this is not enough, this year they are bringing back the Buried Alive Experience, a burial simulator, surely not for the faint of heart…. plus a beer lounge (the Scream Bar) with four beers on tap.

Also back in 2015 there was “Pittsburgh Tactical Zombie Laser Tag”, a great adaption of the game in order to control the zombie population out at South Park.  These seems to be a thing of the past, but they are bringing back the 7,500 square-foot maze, due to popular demand, this year known simply as the The Maze instead of last year’s Black Wall Insanity Maze.

In prior years, shared fire pits would be open to the public at no extra charge.  Also, a Saturday / Sunday Matinee Pumpkin Patch Playland would be held for the younger kids on the three weekends prior to Halloween.  In the past they have had special events and attractions such as a kids costume contest,  Zombie Night and Guys and Ghouls Night.  They have also featured the Pumpkin Catapult off and on through the years.  There is no mention of any of these on the website.

Finally, there are reports that the farm is TRULY haunted, and that some of the “effects” that visitors notice are not part of the attraction.

Monongahela Candlelight Ghost Walk Tours

These tours took place in 2022, hopefully they will have them again in 2023.  Check back for updates.  In the meantime, here is information from 2021:

The ghost walk is back for its 23rd season in 2021, after a break due to COVID last year.  Come hear haunted stories of the Mon Valley and enjoy additional events!  Costumed guides and storytellers lead participants on a candlelight walk through the streets of Monongahela, discussing supposedly true paranormal accounts of the local area. Four sites were visited in years past.  You can also sign up for a VIP tour on Saturdays, which includes a full tour of one of the haunted houses, led by the owner.  Previously it took place at the old Blythe house at the famed 808 Main Street address, or at Chess Park; call for details for this year.  The walk concludes with refreshments and a chance to discuss the tour.  In years past they have hosted a Masquerade Ball, a History and Myths program, and a Spell-a-Bration, a must for magic fans! Call to inquire about these events.  All proceeds benefit the Historical Society’s Keep the Museum Open campaign.  Tours are not recommended for children under 12.

Northern Nightmares

CLOSED… For 2023 at least.  This has been open off and on throughout the years.  They will not be holding this event this year but are planning to return in 2024.

Northern Nightmares is a unique group of Halloween events in and around Zelienople and Harmony, PA.  It is based out of The Strand Theater in the heart of Zelienople, and in the past has included chiller and horror movies at the theater.  The main event is the 45-minute Nightmare Tour of the local area, with guides providing “real” ghost stories and accounts of the local area as you tour the towns by bus.  In previous years there were also spooky and Halloween-themed shows and movies at the fabulous Strand Theater all October long.

The tour is appropriate for the entire family.  This event had been around for several years, but took a break for a while. It returned annually in 2015 – 2018, and again in 2021.  More detailed information to hopefully follow.

2023 Dates: None.  Tours would typically leave at 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 & 9:30 when running.

Old Economy After Dark – Ghost Hunt

This is a new addition to the list.  It was open last year, and is returning for 2023!

Historic places like Old Economy are magnets for ghost stories and urban legends – now is your chance to see if these claims are true!  Old Economy is partnering with Beaver County Paranormal for this special event, two nights only.  First, there will be a presentation about ghost hunting in general, then the group will explore the historic grounds under cover of darkness to discover what may be lurking about.  Please note that this in not a “haunted attraction” with costumed actors.

There are two time slots per evening, with the later being designed as a VIP experience.  See the website and/r Facebook page for details.

2023 Dates: Saturday 10/14 and Friday 10/27.  7:00 – 9:00pm OR 8:00 – 11:00 pm

Portals of Fear at the Haunted School

One of the relatively newer attractions, Portals of Fear is back again for 2023.  It is located in the former James Lavelle School on the grounds of Resurrection Church (St. Thomas the Apostle Parish) in West Mifflin, near Kennywood.  The attraction is run by volunteers with proceeds going to benefit the parish youth group.  This may seem like a local attraction only, but it was nominated again this year for “Best Haunted Attraction” by Best of Pittsburgh, so be sure to check it out!

Wander through various psychological portals designed to scare and disturb you, created by the demon Asmodeus, who is searching for souls to steal back to the underworld.  Will you escape?

There will also be a family-friendly midway with concessions and games, live music on select nights or a DJ.  Warm yourself by the fire barrels along the way!  They also feature not-so-scary hayrides and a kids area with arts and crafts / pumpkin picking.

2023 Dates:  Saturdays & Sundays (Three weekends), plus a special opening night on Friday the 13th of October.   October 13-15 , 21-22, and 28-29, 6:00 – 10:00 pm (9:00 pm on Sunday)

Scare Fair 2022

An extension to the West Alexander Fair, the Halloween Scare Fair also takes place at the Fairgrounds and features an 8,500 square foot, walk-through haunted house.  This is a fundraising event sponsored by the West Alexander Fire Department.  Celebrating it’s 11th year in 2023, Scare Fair has become a local favorite over the years with such scares as Zombie Madness, The Forest, Clowns-Clowns-Clowns and the haunted maze.  In 2020, the theme was The Alien Cannibal Hillbilly Virus Outbreak.  In 2021 many of the old haunts were back, plus three newer attractions:  Alien Death, The Hillbilly Zone and Claustrophobia.

For 2023, they are expanding once again with the addition of two new buildings as part of the attraction.

In 2016 they introduced “The Escape Room”, in which you had 5 minutes to solve puzzles to escape, all with various distractions.   If you escaped in time, you would be rewarded with admission to the Scare Fair with no wait, on any night!  They are not doing this anymore, but the team with the fastest escape time will win a free ghost hunt, for the entire group!

This year, they have acquired new property on the grounds, allowing them to offer ghost hunts.  See the website for details.

2023 Dates: Friday & Saturday nights in October, beginning 10/6/23…  7:00 to 11:00pm

Scarehouse

ScareHouse opened in 1999, and is celebrating 22 years in 2023 (they only year they missed was 2020 due to COVID and their location move.)  In recent years they brought back all the old favorites like Bunny, Delirium & Creepo the Clown!  ScareHouse left its longtime location in Etna back in 2018 and set up shop temporarily in the Strip District.  In 2020, they moved to their permanent location in the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, along Route 28.  There are more extensive and detailed sets at this new location.

They maintain the Strip District location at 2420 Penn Avenue for their 3 escape rooms:  Create a Clone, Bring Back the 80s and Stalked by a Killer.  They also offer Steel City Axes, where you can reserve a 2-hour block of axe throwing.

There is no mention of The Basement again this year…  The Basement was a separate, more intense area that was not for the faint of heart or easily offended, and was housed at their prior location.

2023 Dates:  9/8/23- 11/4/23, Fridays & Saturdays plus Sundays in October.  Tickets can be purchased online at specific times, ranging from 7:00 to 10:30 pm (Sundays from 5:00 to 9:30 pm).  Please visit the website for more details.

This is always a growing event, and they are back for 2023 at 1703 Pierce Road since they outgrew the former Long Road location back in 2014.  They are still building it up and each year it gets bigger – this year with an expanded schedule once again.  Hundreds have entered, but not all have returned.  Will you make it back?

Trundle Manor

Trundle Manor is not a seasonal haunted attraction, but more like a bizarre private collection.  An “art house / tourist trap” that is open year-round.

Is your group looking for something a bit different this season?  Trundle Manor may be right for you… This is a private, artist’s residence that features a strange and wonderful collection of “unusual items such as taxidermy, jarred specimens, medical implements, and bizarre weaponry that has been made available to tour by the general public” – according to the website!

Trundle Manor is located on a residential street in Swissvale, not far from Edgewood Town Center.

2023 Dates: Not regularly open to the public.  Tours are by appointment only!

Zombies of the Corn

Here is an attraction for those looking for something a bit different than the usual haunted houses in Pittsburgh –  how would you like to open fire on zombies (with a paintball gun, of course)  Hop aboard the Zombie shooting mobile and go to town with 150 paintballs.  The zombie compound is back better than ever for 2023, including FunHouse 3D. The Zombie Mobile leaves every 20 minutes.

In addition to the Zombie shoot, there is a hard walled Z-maze with trap doors and obstacles, wagon rides and continuous ghost story telling around the campfire, plus food, movies & fun at The Crossroads!  Kids are welcome, even if too small to participate in the Zombie Shoot.  Sponsored by Three Rivers Paintball and Airsoft.  Online reservations are suggested!

Zombies of the Corn
2023 Dates: Fridays & Saturdays starting on 9/22/23 and through October.  Also three Sundays: 10/15, 22 & 29.   7:00 pm – Midnight.  Last ride leaves at 11:15pm

ZooBoo – Halloween Drive-Thru / Pumpkin Palooza

A tradition for younger children, the Zoo Boo is back this year, again for two weekends during daylight hours (10:00 am – 3:00 pm).  It is back to being a walk-thru like before – recall that in 2020 this event switched to a drive-thru format due to COVID.  Once again, you can dress up your kids in their costumes, go trick-or-treating and enjoy the various attractions the Zoo has to offer.  There will be a hay maze, haunt spots for the little ones (not very scary), a Monster Mash Dance Party and costume parades to the Pumpkin Patch Pavilion stage, where there will be costume contests.

In previous years there was a one-day “Pumpkin Palooza” but there is no mention of this for 2023.  Instead, the Zoo is featuring its Asian Lantern Festival from 8/11/23 – 10/29/23 on Thursday through Sunday evenings.  Not exactly a haunted attraction, but worth mentioning nonetheless.

2023 Dates: October 21-22, 28-29. 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.

CLOSED FOR 2023 (Haunted House Graveyard)

The following haunted houses had a good run, but are no longer around.  At some point they gave up the ghost.  They are being included for the sake of nostalgia, but also to confirm that they are indeed closed.

The Glow (Hartwood Acres)

CLOSED…  The Glow is once again not going to be open in Pittsburgh this year.  It was here for one year only in 2018.  Every year they would move to four new cities; the 2021 lineup included Washington DC, Philly, Chicago & Nashville.  But now the website is down, so maybe the Glow has faded…

The Glow, a Jack O’Lantern Experience (now known as Jack’s Pumpkin Glow)  set up shop in 2018 in Hartwood Acres Park in Hampton Township, site of the former Christmas Light display several years ago.  The glow was an all-ages, non scary walking trail, lit by over 5,000 hand carved pumpkins!  The trail was 1/3 mile long, and is stroller friendly.  In fact, kids under 2 years of age were free.

The Glow also featured fall food and drink, with live pumpkin carving demonstrations.  It aimed to be a way for the whole family to enjoy the Halloween season in the cool, night air of October.  Rain or shine…

No 2022 Dates… Sorry.

The Haunted Hayloft: Vengeance

CLOSED… The Haunted Hayloft was last open in 2017.  It was a fixture in Somerset for many years.  Here was the description from that time:

In the past it billed itself as a frightening step back in time, all about History, Horror, Hauntings and Howlings.  The Hayloft was used throughout the year for other activities, but in October it came alive as a Halloween attraction, and has been a Somerset tradition for many years.  The Haunted Hayloft features 4 haunts, including Historic Haunt, Horrors of Hell (taking the place of Forest of Fright) and the Corn Maze of Carnage.  This year there is also zombie Paintball as well as an Escape Room Escapade.  Frights, fire, food & fun awaits…  It was located just a few miles from Huston’s Haunted Hollow and Teen Quest Corn Maze – you could hit several haunted houses in Pittsburgh with one trip to Somerset County!

Happy Hauntings at Kennywood Park

EVENT NAME CHANGE…  This has been replaced by Phantom Fall Fest, which combines Happy Hauntings & Phantom Fright Nights.  See this listing above.  The last year for Happy Hauntings was 2020.

For kids that are too young for Phantom Fright Nights, Kennywood is hosting Happy Hauntings during weekend October afternoons.  Designed for children under 10, there will be tick or treating, costumes, hayrides and more.  Plus, Kiddieland, Thomas Town and other “calmer” rides will be open (no coasters).  Be sure to try out the Mystery Maze and catch the Magic Show!  If this is not enough, sign up for Pancakes with Parker from 11:00am to Noon on selected days.

Haunted Cabin – Oakdale Boy Scout Troop 248

CLOSED…  This was apparently open in 2021 for a few days…  Before that, this was last known to be open in 2017.  Stay tuned for more info if it becomes available.  Here is the old listing from 2017:

After a break of a couple of years, in 2015 the historic Killbuck Lodge was restored and upgraded.  The Oakdale Boy Scout Haunted Cabin was back in 2016! The attraction covers almost an acre of haunted ground, filled with all kinds of critters, beasts and creatures that are waiting for you. Make your way through the maze across the covered bridge and choose your destiny: will you wind up in the Torture Chamber or the Spinning Vortex of Doom? Check out the Cabin itself to see What’s Cooking, and be careful of The Cabin Witch along the way.  Group discounts and refreshments are available. ($5 per person or $3 for special groups.) Proceeds benefit Oakdale’s Boy Scout Troop 248.

The Haunted School – Castle Shannon VFD

CLOSED…  This has been closed for decades, and the building has been gone for years… but definitely worth a shout out.  It was last open in 2001.

The Haunted School on Route 88 in Castle Shannon was a fixture in the 1980s and 90s, back before the explosion of haunted attractions and their widespread popularity.  It was operated by the Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department, who purchased the old Hamilton School Building.  The school was dedicated in 1904 and in operation until 1969.  The three-story school provided a perfect creepy setting for classic haunted house scares and surprises, with something new in each classroom.  It featured an old school bus that served as the entrance portal to the school, which added to the whole experience.  Here is a link to an article about the attraction in its final year: https://archive.triblive.com/news/haunted-school-to-end-long-run/

Haunted Hillside

CLOSED…  Haunted Hillside was last open in 2018, with a planned re-opening in 2020.  That didn’t happen due to COVID and nothing has been updated for 2022.  Here is the description from 2018:

Haunted Hillside is a haunted attraction where an original story continues to evolve from year to year. This includes custom characters and sets that you won’t find at other attractions. Meet the Farmer family, the gang of kilbillies that love having people for dinner. An occult has also moved into Haunted Hillside, causing mystical mayhem and keeping the killbillies on their toes.  Not to mention the scarecrows and sack boys that continue to terrorize folks that they come across.  In 2018, there is a new character to watch out for:  Allister Heck.  Get a feel for what it is like to be in a horror movie!  Visit their website to get the current version of the story.

Haunted Hillside is an all-outdoor attraction through wooded areas and corn fields and we are open rain or shine.  The terrain is all natural, so please dress appropriately (there could be mud).  Ticket prices are only $20 for general admission. Price of admission includes 5 attractions: Helltown, Sackboy Woods, The Salvage Yard, Forest of the Forgotten, and Scarecrow Alley.  All of these are connected, for a total length of about a mile.

Haunted School of Terror

CLOSED…  This Weirton haunted house was last open in 2017.  They had hoped to return in 2019…  Striplight Theatre was planning to buy the school property and recreate the haunted school, but there was no further info about that.  So, it looks like this one gave up the ghost…  Here is the description from 2016:

Dead tired of the same old routine? Same old haunted houses killing you?  Head west across the state line to the Haunted School Of Terror every weekend in October.  Come check out our eternal agenda…  Take an elevator ride to the third floor and let class begin!  You may be deathly surprised who you see from school: an old mate, perhaps a best friend?  Boyfriend / Girlfriend?  Teacher?  Come and find out…  Built in 1939, this school has taught a lot of souls: see if you can earn your diploma!  Billed as one of the Ohio Valley’s Largest Indoor Climate Controlled Mazes, the Haunted School of Terror is located in Weirton, WV, only a 30 minute drive from Robinson Township, one hour from Pittsburgh.  New for 2016 is The Barn, based on the legends of The Boogeyman, Hallowed Jack and The Candycorn Scarecrow.

Hellatorium at Switchback Raceway

CLOSED…  This one never got off the ground.

A new haunted house had been planned for the Switchback Raceway in Butler back in 2014, but things did not come together as planned. It was planned to be the largest in Pennsylvania, situated inside a 45,000 sf building, the size of a football field.  The website is down, and this one never seemed to get off of the ground.

Mischief Manor / Victory Haunted House

CLOSED…  Mischief Manor / Victory Haunted House has closed for good, as of the end of the 2015 Halloween season.

Mischief Manor in Elizabeth, PA was located in a reincarnated haunted schoolhouse, in the same building as the former Victory Haunted House that closed in 2008 after a 30-year run.  It had been open from 2012 to 2015 as “Mischief Manor”.  Up until its demise, it was the longest-running haunted attraction in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Scream Factory

CLOSED… 2018 was the first year for this attraction, but it looks like it will not be returning.  The Facebook page says “Permanently Closed” and the website is down.  Here was the listing from 2018:

There is a new haunted house in town, in New Kensington to be exact!  The AK Valley Research Park is sponsoring this walk-through haunted house, through Halloween night…  According to the website, the Scream Factory is where your worst nightmares come to life… will you make it out with your sanity?

The setting is also noteworthy in that the creators are attempting to help out and breathe life into the community and surrounding areas, for the good of the town.  Help them out by visiting their all-new attraction this October!

Spooky Stories at the Old Stone House

CLOSED…  This event has not been listed & the website is down.  It was last open in 2019.  As per FB, no events at the Stone House have taken place for years.  The property is now owned by Slippery Rock, who have kept it closed since COVID.   Here is old info from 2019:

Halloween meets History! Come to the Old Stone House for storytelling, historical reenactments and a guided tour.  The Old Stone House is a nearly 200 year old restored inn near Slippery Rock that hosts special events throughout the year.  All proceeds support the Old Stone House and its community programs.  This year the event will feature storytelling, historical reenactments and a side show, plus numerous activities available for the kids.  Admission is $8 (children 8 & under for $5).  Please get your tickets in advance through their website.

In 2014 the Center for Paranormal Study and Investigation teamed up with the folks at the Old Stone House for real ghost hunting…  Maybe their findings will be the subject of one of the spooky stories…

Terror Town

CLOSED… The website had been partially updated in 2017. But it was last open in 2015, so it looks like this attraction has been ghosted…  Here was the listing from 2015:

Terror Town is returning for its 5th year, located in the 30,000 sf basement of a Strip District warehouse.  “Enter the abyss beneath 17th Street” at your own risk and prepare for the “final act”.  There is an indoor waiting area, perfect for rainy and cold weather.  Come for “Friday the 13th Night” on November 13th for one final blast!  The site has been identified as having a “strong paranormal presence” by the PA Department of Paranormal Investigation.  Come check out the new spine tingling twists and gruesome props for 2015!

Trail of Terror (Carnegie Park): The Beyond

Not updated for 2023, the website is dead.   In 2020 they were planning to open for the 2021 season, but I don’t think that happened.  Here was the description from 2019:

Pitcher Skate Park is hosting the Trail of Terror again in 2019, an annual tradition since 2012.  This year they promise “an all-new experience straight from your nightmares”!   Along with the haunted trail, there is a pumpkin patch and food available.  Warm up around the haunted fireplace…  The trail typically gets bigger and better each year.  Kids are welcome, and by request can be walked through with flashlights to meet the actors, for a fun and not-so-scary experience.  The website is down for now, but look them up on Facebook for more info…
