Literally situated in the corner of the state, Greene County is the most rural
and least populated among the counties in southwestern PA. The largest city is
Waynesburg, near I-79 in the center of the county, home of the annual "Rain Day"
celebration on July 29th each year. Several small towns lie along the banks of
the Monongahela River in the extreme eastern portion of the county, such as Rice's
Landing and Greensboro, but the western part of the county remains extremely rural
and forested.
Greene county has its share of historical sites and heritage and offers several
events throughout the year, including the Jacktown and County Fairs as well as a
covered Bridge Festival. It is also known for its several remaining "Mail Pouch
Tobacco" barns scattered throughout the county.
